Weekly Roundup 20 March 2022

What I'm reading, listening to and watching this week. Featuring Otis Redding and Paul McCartney.

In a format totally lifted from Tim Ferriss:

What I'm Reading:
* Darius the Great is Not Okay - Adib Khorram

* Tune In - Mark Lewisohn (first mentioned here)

* The Almanack of Naval Ravikant (first mentioned here)

* Things Worth Fighting For - Bari Weiss

Who I'm Listening To:
* The Ultimate Otis Redding

Someone I know with fantastic taste in music (I would say who, but I believe he would like to remain anonymous) included this compilation in his top 10 albums list. I couldn't seem to find this exact compilation on Spotify or Apple music, so I put one together based on the tracklist.

When looking into this, I found out that Otis Redding passed away tragically young - at 26. It's a testament to his talent that so many years after his untimely death, he remains a household name.

Truth be told, I don't know too much about Otis Redding yet but I know his sound was powerful and unfiltered. It came to exemplify what was known as the STAX sound - timeless, unpolished, and raw.

What I'm Watching:
* McCartney 3, 2, 1

Six episodes of Rick Ruben and Paul McCartney talking about McCartney's work is something I didn't know I needed in my life, but I am so glad exists.

What I'm Thinking About:
* Beginning next week, I'll be documenting the process of offering playlists and explanations for those who want to go deeper into certain genres, or maybe even explore the discography of iconic bands, but don't really know where to start.
